My Story
Hi! Thanks for finding me! Let me first introduce myself – I’m Joy, a single Mama to two (ages 14 & 11), a Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Canadiens fan, I love scrapbooking, hockey and all things Canadian.
I also have a full-time job as an Admin Assistant at an accounting firm and love what I do. Scentsy is my side-hustle which came unexpectedly, and has brought me so much joy and now pays for my monthly auto insurance (SGI) and several other bills too.
How did that happen? Back in the late 90’s I sold plastic bowls for about 10 years. I learned a lot – and that foundation in direct sales really helped me get to where I am now. Was prior experience necessary to be a Scentsy consultant? Absolutely not!
Briefly – I graduated from university with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Technical/Production Theatre. I was a Stage Manager in Canadian Professional Theatre for 18 years before I put that career aside when I was pregnant with my daughter. A couple of years later, my son arrived (while we were in New Zealand!), and when we returned to Canada I worked in a car dealership as an advisor, then eagerly started my second career as an Admin Assistant.
The reason I originally picked up my first direct sales job (and a subsequent side gig as a professional product demonstrator), was to fill in the gaps of my contract work in professional theatre. Over the course of an average year, I would work for roughly 40 weeks in theatre, but need to budget for 52 (and EI wasn’t always an option). Thus the need to fill in my budget with extra income.
Then in the fall of 2020, I discovered a Toronto Blue Jays baseball hat Scentsy warmer on FB marketplace. When I picked it up from the lady, I saw that it was in a Scentsy box. I had no idea about Scentsy and googled the company. I immediately discovered that I could get Scentsy wax to put in in my warmer and I wanted to find someone! I located my now Director/Sponsor, Becky, and started discovering Scentsy.
But – I was never going to have a party and never going to join (because of my experiences with the previous company I was with). That all changed as soon as I discovered the Harry Potter Hogwarts warmer (I had a party), and a $31 join special in March of 2022. At the time, I wasn’t sure where my Scentsy path was going to go – but I decided to try it for 30 days. I mean, for less than a cost of a mini-warmer, I had a business! In my first 70 days I earned the Scentsational Start Level 2, and more importantly – I have discovered an all-encompassing culture of caring from Head Office to every Scentsy Sister and Mister. I have never experienced anything like this before, and I wish I’d joined years ago!
